Every kitchen has a story to tell, from burnt rice to the perfect soufflé. Ours started with a casserole dish.
Growing up, dinner meant one thing: a one-pot casserole. It was reliable and it fed everyone, but it was always the same. I wanted more. I wanted variety, and I wanted to taste something I'd never had before.
So I started rummaging. I'd open the pantry with no recipe and no plan, just a can of tomatoes, a half bag of rice, a jar of spices, and a lot of curiosity. I'd put things together and see what happened. Sometimes it was a triumph. Sometimes it was a lesson. Either way, I was hooked.
That curiosity turned into 30 years of cooking, learning, and discovering which tools truly earn their place.
Along the way, we spent thousands of dollars buying kitchen tools and putting them to the test. Some became everyday essentials. Others ended up forgotten in the back of a drawer. The pattern was hard to miss: if a tool only does one thing, it isn't useful enough.
